Cast as the multi-pierced, tattooed Lisbeth Salander in the movie The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo, Mara Rooney gave a new meaning and dimension to body piercing and tattoo.

Who would have thought that a whimsically beautiful girl that can easily look like Audrey Hepburn can also look like a boy?

Well, Mara Rooney did. With a move as legendary as the world's coolest heroine, this actress went beyond the ordinary and underwent drastic changes for the sake of art. To look authentic as Lisbeth Salander in her celebrated movie "The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo", Mara went overboard - she not only had multiple piercings on her ears, but had her nose, brow, lip and right nipple pierced!

In an interview with Allure, she said, " “I’m naked quite a lot in the movie… And I thought, "She has it in the book, and she should have it [in the movie]. Because of all the tattoos and the makeup and the piercings, and the physical transformations my body has to go through, it would always feel sort of like I was in costume, even if I was naked. It just felt like a good one to get—a necessary one to get.”

Asked if piercing her nipple hurt the most, she recalled, "“It was actually not that painful… Everyone thinks that would be the most painful.”

The movie was based on a best-selling crime series by Stiegg Larson with the same title. Cast opposite Daniel Craig, Mara plays a wealthy and intelligent computer analyst who works as an investigator.

As the Gotham glam Lisbeth Salander, Mara Rooney has set piercing and tatto free forever.
