Hello, I'm Kassie, and as you can see, I have piercings on my face. I've had my share of raised eyebrows, frowns of disapproval, dagger looks, disgusted glances and what have yous, especially from the oldies (chuckle). Well, I simply shrug my shoulders to them because my worth doesn't depend on how others see me. Rather, it is connected to whether I am true or not to myself.
I am basically a happy, balanced person; I am raised with so much love in the family and I have so many friends who vie for my attention. Hello, I'm not having piercings because I want to belong, or I want to make a statement of rebellion. I am being pierced because I want to be pierced, period. Should there be a reason for everything we do? Nobody asks me why I dye my hair, why I prefer Balenciaga or Channel, why I exist, why I live, laugh and love.
I'm quite aware though that many young people get pierced because of insecurities. When you get pierced because you want to belong, that's insecurity. When you get pierced because you want to attract attention, that's insecurity. When you get pierced because you want to make a statement or simply want to be different, that is still insecurity.
You are who you are, a unique person who has every right to be. As long as you do not hurt anyone, you are not subject to anyone's judgment, you do not need anyone's approval to feel good about yourself.
A man behind bars with a free spirit is better than a freedman with a shackled spirit.
Just be who you are. You were born free. Free to love, free to feel good about yourself, free to give of yourself, free to be yourself, Stay free and don't subject yourself to how others see you. You have a right to be.
You are who you are.
