Disinfectant Recipes at home!

  • Disinfecting a piercing is very important especially in its early stages. There are a lot of disinfectants available at most shops but not all of them can be used to clean your piercings. Some of them can actually induce infection to the piercing. There are chemicals in strong disinfectants that can dry up the skin which makes it more susceptible to infection.

The easiest disinfectant that you can make at home is a saline solution.

    1. Get a jar and wash it thoroughly with soap. Make sure that there are no crusts left in the jar so scrub it properly.

    2. Fill the jar with tap, distilled, or bottled water. You can boil the water if you like but that does not mean that it is sterile. Also, don't use the boiled water immediately as it will be too hot.

    3. Mix baking soda and non-iodized salt together and grind them in a bowl. Grind them until they are finely crushed to dissolve them faster. Table salt should not be an option as it has additives that can harm or worsen the wound.

    4. Combine this mixture with the water and stir thoroughly. You can boil the mixture before use. Use a dropper or Neti Pot to apply the mixture.

There you have it! A homemade saline solution where you have control over the ingredients! This makes you sure that there are no harmful chemicals or additives on the mixture that can worsen your wound.

Rose Mendlewood Yeah i think the best benefit of making your own solutions at home is that you know the contents of what you are using and can make sure that nothing in it can cause infections to your wound.
