Actually this is more of an urban legend. And if you use lubes or at least wear a condom there won't be any problem of the piercing getting pulled off as the condom can hold the piercing in place and the lube can reduce friction but you will still feel go... more

There are also some cases where the piercings don't match the hole to put it in. Like in using spirals for helix piercings. You should make sure that the angle of the piercing is just right if you don't want to have your ear cut off.

Navel Piercings look best with hooks and barbells, which can actually be noticed more easily. I don't think navel piercings will look good with studs because you won't be able to notice studs unless you actually look at the area.
